Summary

She can’t recall what started her collection。 Maybe it was in a fragment of conversation overheard as she cleaned a sink? Before long (as she dusted a sitting room or defrosted a fridge) she noticed people were telling her their stories。 Perhaps they always had done, but now it is different, now the stories are reaching out to her and she gathers them to her…

Cleaner Janice knows that it is in people’s stories that you really get to know them。 From recently-widowed Fiona and her son Adam; to opera-singing Geordie; and the awful Mrs ‘YeahYeahYeah’ and her fox terrier, Decius, Janice has a unique insight into the community around her。

When Janice starts cleaning for Mrs B – a shrewd and tricky woman in her nineties – she finally meets someone who wants to hear her story。 But Janice is clear: she is the keeper of stories, she doesn’t have a story to tell。 At least, not one she can share。

Mrs B is no fool and knows there is more to Janice than meets the eye。 What is she hiding? After all, doesn’t everyone have a story to tell?

A very heartwarming, joyful story。 I loved the simplicity of the story, yet enjoyed how it dived into so many different stories along the way。 Great characters。 A really lovely read。

Masterfully written in a way that leaves you thinking about these characters after you’ve read their stories。 Janice is a cleaner who keeps a library of ordinary peoples stories inside her head。 Isn’t it true though that the most wonderful stories in the chaos of modern life are the stories of the mundane, of the ordinary that is now extra ordinary。 We must learn to find the beauty in people again, to see not grey shadows moving through life in service to nothing。 We’ve got to learn to be like J Masterfully written in a way that leaves you thinking about these characters after you’ve read their stories。 Janice is a cleaner who keeps a library of ordinary peoples stories inside her head。 Isn’t it true though that the most wonderful stories in the chaos of modern life are the stories of the mundane, of the ordinary that is now extra ordinary。 We must learn to find the beauty in people again, to see not grey shadows moving through life in service to nothing。 We’ve got to learn to be like Janice。 Who takes interest in people, even the ones that don’t necessary deserve it。 To me, that’s beautiful, and that’s why The Keeper Of Stories well deserves all five stars and more。 。。。more

I have certain criteria when reading a book。 Did this make me laugh out load - tick, Did it make me cry? - tick, Did I empathise with the characters- tick & finally do I wish I’d have written this book myself。 Huge tick for this。 I was saddened to read some of the other comments but then we’re all different。 Happily, I absolutely Loved the book。PS: totally got the dog!!

Lesley

What a great book。 So many lessons。 Beautifully written。 Janice is everyone。 None of us are just cleaners and we all hold on to too much and have more than 1 story。 It sometimes takes someone else to make sense of our story。 Loved Mrs P, we all need her in our life。 Great book, loved it!

This was a nice, pleasant and easy going read。 I did find the storyline moved a little slowly through the first half, however this gave a good background for the second half to pick up, with a satisfying ending。 Thank you for the ARC, 3 stars。

I really enjoyed this book, the characters believable and the stories Janice collected left you wanting to know more。 I honestly couldn’t put it down and more importantly it ended how I thought it should。

A beautiful readI really enjoyed this book, at times I felt at times it was off the topic, not getting to the point or not sure how to lead the reader。 But the core story grips you and actually made me reflect on my own stories, and some that I had collected。 It made you smile a little at the end。

Absolutely Wonderful!I loved the characters。 It really has a feel good factor and depicts life in a totally believable way。 I didn’t want it to end and I think it would make a delightful film or mini series。 I can’t wait to read more from Sally Page。

A great readI think everyone is a keeper of stories in their own right! Not my normal read but the title intrigued me and I got sucked right in。Janice is a relatable and likeable character, I'd quite like to take her for a pint and talk books 😁😂 First of my Sally Page books, doubt it will be the last!!! Every man should leave a story better than he found it。Janice is a woman after my own heart, her childhood so reminded me of the one I lived。 She does not suffer fools and she made me smile so often。 Her inner musings and dialogue had me literally laughing out loud。 I loved most of the various characters she cleaned for but I especially loved Mrs。 B。 She was very much like Janice herself。 And the story of Becky within the story had me captivated。 Just so you know how quirky Janis is, she tak Every man should leave a story better than he found it。Janice is a woman after my own heart, her childhood so reminded me of the one I lived。 She does not suffer fools and she made me smile so often。 Her inner musings and dialogue had me literally laughing out loud。 I loved most of the various characters she cleaned for but I especially loved Mrs。 B。 She was very much like Janice herself。 And the story of Becky within the story had me captivated。 Just so you know how quirky Janis is, she takes advice from a dog named Decius that she voices in her head and I loved it。 Fiona and Adam's story was so sad, with a dead husband/father these two really had some things to work through and were very lucky to have Janice in their lives。 I really hated Janie's husband though, he seemed like such an ass BUT have no fear dear reader。。。。Janice has a crush! The dashing bus driver she calls "Geography Teacher" because he looks likes one。 (And honestly。。。I think he is crushing back。) This book has so much going for it and I, for one, loved it。 All The Stars! 。。。more

*Endearing*For some time now Janice has been collecting stories。 She is a cleaner and she overhears lots of conversations because she is virtually invisible。 It does not help that she has a husband of a thousand jobs。 He is always coming up with hair-brained schemes as he eats into their savings mostly without even discussing it。 He always refers to her as “just a cleaner” her job does not define her。 With all these stories there is one story she neglects to think about is her own。The people she *Endearing*For some time now Janice has been collecting stories。 She is a cleaner and she overhears lots of conversations because she is virtually invisible。 It does not help that she has a husband of a thousand jobs。 He is always coming up with hair-brained schemes as he eats into their savings mostly without even discussing it。 He always refers to her as “just a cleaner” her job does not define her。 With all these stories there is one story she neglects to think about is her own。The people she cleans for are mainly rich and some high profile。 One new client is the brusque Mrs B, the mother of the one she refers to as “Mr No, No, Not Now” his wife “Mrs Yeah, Yeah, Yeah” the only saving grace is their dog a fox terrier called Decius。 Mrs B is in her 90’s and there is far more to her than meets the eye。 She is the one who wants to hear Janice’s story。 Is Janice ready to reveal it? It is the most engrossing stories。 One that has scarred Janice。 This book will make you laugh, especially the voice that Janice invents for what she thinks Decius is saying, it will make you smile and overall I just loved it。 。。。more

Funny, sad and entertaining bookI liked Janice's sense of humour and the characters in the story。 I didn't like Decius' language but it did add to his character。 I thoroughly enjoyed the book and read it much too late for my own good! The only thing that troubles me is where Janice is going to keep the dog。 I thought she was living in a hostel。 Funny, sad and entertaining bookI liked Janice's sense of humour and the characters in the story。 I didn't like Decius' language but it did add to his character。 I thoroughly enjoyed the book and read it much too late for my own good!
